It’ the season to be merry and stupid…
Some of us including myself will eat too much… drink too much and generally let our hair down and enjoy this time of year.
It is Christmas time … holiday time.. so why not.

As the year comes to an end many of us like to reflect on the past 12 months and assess our performances.

All the goals and resolutions we made at the end of the last year.
Did we achieve them?
Did we achieve some of them?
Did we just give up in the first month … too hard!

This does not only relate only to the business component of our lives.

While business goals are directed to only one part of our lives.

What about all those personal goals?
One of the most popular ones would be weight loss.
Has your family life improved?

Did you achieve all you set out to do.
Were you just short or miles away.
Did you give up half way through the year.

Were your business goals dollar focused.

This year I urge you to try something different.
When setting your path for the next 12 months make one of your goals to see how many people you can help.
By help I don’t mean with dollars.
Give people help where they need it not where you think they need it.
This year listen to the people around you and see how many will benefit from knowing you.

Have a great Christmas and a fantastic New Year.
It has been good  knowing you.

Cheers

  • Wow, it’s really hard for me not to jump in with a commercial for my new book here! Anyway, you are SO right about the sad state of New Year’s Resolutions. I have some pretty strong opinions on that along with goal setting in general, but I will share that two of the problems with resolutions are that 1) most people don’t take the time to really THINK about their resolutions – it’s that time of the year where everyone is talking about them so at some point they throw together a list – which by the way 2)ends up looking far more like a list of “shoulds” than any meaningful goals that relate to life priorities. Deep breath :-)

      Hi Marty,
You are quite welcome to mention your new book … will go over and find out more about it.
So true about people putting a list together just because they feel it is expected. really no value at all.

Thanks for calling over and leaving your comments.

2011 was very how to say “colorful year”…I can only wish the next one to be the same, but if it is it will be boring. So let it be better one:)

  • This was not a good year for me. January this year, I expected that I will be able to achieve most of my goals by December, but sad to say, I came short. And I was like depressed about this. However, still I was not losing faith that I can achieve them this coming 2012. Hopefully, things will turn out good to me this time. Happy holidays everyone.

Goals are a yard stick …something we don’t always reach in the time span we set for ourselves.
Good to hear your are more positive about the furure.

      • But even though I didn’t achieve my goals in time, that will not discourage me from attaining them. I will still work hard to achieve them. I’m not sure when, but I’m sure I can achieve them.

  • Hi Bryan,

I hope you’re enjoying the festive season.

2011 was a mixed bag for me – but that’s life. Meet with triumph and disaster eh?

Nice suggestion regarding helping other people out as a new year’s resolution. I haven’t made any for 2012 yet, but I will certainly bear that in mind.

Wishing you and your readers the best for 2012.

    Hi Bryan

Hope you had a fab christmas and happy new year!

I’m happy to say I did achieve all my goals in 2011 so am just writing out my goals for 2012 now…

I’ve got them in my head but need to get them on paper so I can map out how I’m gonna achieve them.

Whatever you decide to do Bryan I wish you all the best of luck with it and thank you for all your support.

    Take care

Late again with my reply … sorry.
This will be the best year yet.
You must be proud of yourself to have achieved everything to set out to do.
      Well done!
      Have a great year.

  • Hi Bryan,
I’ve decided instead of goals for the new year to make small goals for each day. This has already made me more productive in the first few days of 2012 than all last month. As a doctor I like to think that I give back to my patients everyday, but it’s important to be reminded every day. Best of luck in the New Year.

I can relate with being stupid over the holiday after this season is (finally) over. Although I know that I shouldn’t eat much, I do eat too much all the time and end up feeling really bad. Not talking about the weight gain and the effects of lack of motion. I always promise myself to do it differently next year, but I end up doing the same thing again :). Happy New Year to you too!

      Hi Emilia,
We just do not seem to listen to our bodies… I must confess that I did the same with a similar result.
Maybe next year … ha! ha!

Hope this is a great year.

    Bryan,

Given that this post is submitted in January, we have survived the holidays, didn’t maim or disfigure any relatives, ate well, traveled far and generally had some fun.

I like to set intentions for the year rather than goals for the simple reason that goals and resolutions rarely get achieved.

Nonetheless, it is a time for reflections, evaluations and some sort of commitment.

May all your commitments come true!

    Happy 2012!

    Nice motivational post,Bryan.

It is very important to asses our self if we are accomplishing our goals or not.

If we cannot accomplish our goals, It is because of our bad habits and we should change it Immediately.

Keep up the good work Bryan.

I don’t like big resolutions because they’re always hard to reach, and I don’t like feel disappointed. I prefer the baby steps, the bigger goals could be reached with small steps, too:)
